ABOUT  US

When it comes to the science of gemstones, if there is any name in India that’s worth its weight in diamonds, then it’s the Gemmological Institute of India. The Gemmological Institute of India is India’s topmost authority on gemstones and diamonds. GII, as its well known, is synonymous with world class quality education and certification in the gem industry. It is the place to tell the difference between natural, synthetic and treated gemstones.

GII, an independent and impartial institute, is a pioneer in India. It was established in 1971 by the gem trade and industry as a non-profit-making Public Charitable Trust founded for the promotion and development of Gemmology in India. Today, it is the most progressive and trusted institute in India with a rock slide credibility which is proving enough for diamond graders to use GII’s Diamond Grading Reporters as benchmarks.

Realizing the need of the Indian Gem & Jewellery industry, the leading organizations of the Indian Gem Industry namely: The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, Bharat Diamond Bourse, Diamond Exporters’ Association Ltd. and Gem & Jewellery Exporters’ Association have decided to come together for the promotion of a common cause, the establishment of a “National Research Center” for diamonds and gemstones in Mumbai.
