Indian Gemological Seminar is an event where all the Gemmologists in India are eagerly longing to participate. It is a platform where the knowledge is distributed and shared by the participants. It is not only a knowledge sharing venue, but it is a reunion of friends and associates for renewal of friendship and making new contacts.

The IGS-8 was held at Mysore . It was an excellent meeting ground where over 20 papers of varied interest and covering many topics of gemology was presented and discussed.

People from almost all the states were present at the Seminar. Main topics of discussion were on synthetic diamond, HPHT treatments, and heat treatments on corundum, jewellery marketing and manufacturing. Budding gemologists from Manipal University who are doing their degree course in jewelry manufacturing and marketing shown extra talent in market survey and presentation of newer trends. Institutions like GII, Mumbai, IDI, Surat , GTL and Jaipur presented extra ordinary papers reaching out to valuable information related to diamonds and gemstones especially the treatments.

The seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Dr. V.S. Acharya, and the Minister for Medical Education, Government of Karnataka and Guest of Honour Dr. J. Shashidhara Prasad, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore . In their speech both Educationalists stressed the need for education within the industry and amongst the general public about gemstones. They also congratulated the Forum of Indian Gemologists, The Gemmological Institute of India and the Indian Diamond Institute for organizing such a seminar with a view to impart scientific knowledge amongst people. The local traders from Mysore , Udipi and Mangalore were also attended the seminar.

The seminar was coordinated with the help and active support of Mr. Gopal Krishnan of M/s. Bhima Brothers, Mysore and Mr. Ramdas Nayak, Swarna Jewellery, Udupi, as co-conveners of the seminar.

In the address of Mr. Ramdas Nayak re-iterated the fact that Indian Industry could conquer the world jewellery market by educating the younger generation and introducing the latest and modern methods of manufacturing of jewellery.

Mr. K.T. Ramchandran, Hon. Secretary of the Forum in his address stressed the need for more and more advanced study of the science of gemstones with a view to build a sound and scientific infrastructure for the Indian industry.

The next venue of next Indian Gemmological Seminar (IGS-9, 2007) has been decided to be at Nainital, Uttaranchal.
