Gem – A (Gemmological Association of Great Britain) is one of the most valued and prestigious Gemmological organizations in the world today. In fact, Gemmological studies, in an organized form were started in Great Britain by the Gemmological Association, early in the 20 th century.

By the year 2008, Gemmological Association of Great Britain will be celebrating the 100 th anniversary of its establishment.

Gem – A, the pioneer institution in the field of gemology in the world conducts 2-year Diploma course, leading to the most coveted Fellowship known as FGA (Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain).

The FGA course is divided into two years of study. First year is Foundation and second year is the Diploma. On passing the first year foundation studies, students are allowed to take up the Diploma examination and upon passing the Diploma Course, students are awarded the FGA, Fellowship title. Under special agreement entered by the Gemmological Institute of India with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, the Association has now agreed to allow the students of GII to appear directly for the FGA Diploma Examination without appearing for the Foundation Course (first year) examinations.

In other words the Foundation course is waived off for the GII students who are diploma holders and they can now appear for the FGA Examination directly.

This facility is applicable to the students of GII who has completed their diploma course from the year 2003 onwards.

With this agreement the GII students will be saving fees for the foundation course amounting to Rs.80,000/- and also one year of study time!

This is one more feather in the cap of GII as far as its gemology courses are concerned.
