India's share in the world of diamonds in terms of volume is about 80% and in terms of value it is about 55%. In fact it is said that every 8 diamonds out of 10 sold in the world markets today are cut and polished in India.
GRADING OF DIAMONDS
As India is the leader in the exports of diamonds in the world Market it is essential to know the quality diamonds to cater to the requirement of global market. To grade the diamonds for its clarity, colour and cut as per the international standard is what the GII is established for.

4 C's

Diamonds have been graded as per their clarity, colour, cut and carat weight. Clarity of a diamond is one of the most important aspect of its grading. The clarity has been graded depending upon the inclusions present in a diamond and also the position, colour, relief and number and size of inclusions. GII teaches as per the International Standards.

Colour is yet most another important and vital aspect in the valuation of diamonds. Ideal proportion of a diamond is also on equally important for its evaluation. GII has designed the diamond course taking into account all these aspects.

Polished diamond grading is taught by highly qualified diamond graders Ms. Sucheta Chudawala and Dharmesh Pachchigar.
ROUGH ASSORTMENT

Rough assortment is the most complicated aspect of the diamond industyr. Rough diamonds are assorted taking into account or calculating the resultant shape, clarity colour of the finished diamond. GII developed a course by which students are taught as to how to judge the rough diamonds for its qualitative aspects such as clarity, colour, yield and determine the shape. Rough diamond assortment teaches the vital information for assessing the colour and clarity of the final cut and polished diamond. GII imparts intensive training to judge the yield of a rough diamond.
